Why is garden security so important?
Our love for outdoor spaces is growing…
Many of us who are lucky enough to have private gardens put considerable time and effort into creating quiet and secluded outdoor spaces, away from prying eyes, where we can enjoy some peace and privacy. We value our outdoor havens very highly – it’s difficult to put a price on the benefits of having a safe space to take in some fresh air, connect with nature, and enjoy our down time. Our passion for outdoor spaces is also reflected in our annual spending. According to the Horticultural Trades Association – which represents garden retailers, growers, manufacturers and landscapers – UK households collectively spent around £8 billion on retail garden products in 2023. But that unfortunately makes our gardens attractive to thieves too…
As more of us are choosing to invest in plants, ornaments and furniture to personalise and enjoy our outdoor spaces, and purchasing expensive gardening equipment to help maintain them, garden crime is also a growing problem. More than 9 out of 10 crimes against households involve thefts from the garden. Crime figures in England and Wales, for the year ending March 2024, tell us that there were a staggering 517,000 thefts from gardens last year*.
My Secure Garden is here to help you…
The nights are drawing in and, as you prepare to dismantle the egg chair, pack away the cushions, and wrap up any plants and ornaments that might be susceptible to frost, My Secure Garden is here to help you ensure that your garden and treasured outdoor possessions are protected.

Living in a house on a corner plot, we have always been aware that our own garden could be vulnerable to intruders and theft. Concerns about the security of our own garden prompted a search for garden security products which proved surprisingly time-consuming, confusing and frustrating. Even when we stumbled upon an excellent ‘Secured Garden’ exhibition at a local flower show, we subsequently found it difficult to source some of the products we had seen on display. That’s when we decided to create My Secure Garden – bringing together the various products we had found and making them easily accessible to anyone like us, who may be looking to enhance their own security. My Secure Garden features a wide range of security products suitable for quick and simple DIY installation.
Protecting your garden also makes your home safer…
As the Police will tell you, having a secure garden also makes your home safer. “It may not seem obvious but protecting your garden and outbuildings like sheds not only keeps bikes and other valuables safe, but can also stop burglars accessing tools to get into your home” – Police.uk. This advice is echoed by The Crime Prevention Website which offers free advice on how to prevent crime in the garden, outbuildings and garage, and highlights how thieving from the garden can lead to thieving from the house.A few key products…
