FAQs
What is a CEN rating?

CEN stands for “Central European Norm”. It is an independent testing standard for padlocks. CEN rated padlocks offer the highest levels of protection for your outdoor spaces and possessions and can be required by a number of insurers to qualify for insurance for high value property such as motorbikes. In order for the padlock to achieve a certain CEN grade it must pass through a number of intensive tests. There are 6 levels within the CEN grade, ranging from general use to maximum security. CEN grades 3 to 5 are considered medium to high security and are generally considered appropriate for domestic consumers, making them ideal for garden security applications.

The grade ratings are:
• GRADE 6 – Maximum Security
• GRADE 5 – Extra High Security
• GRADE 4 – High Security
• GRADE 3 – Medium / High Security
• GRADE 2 – Standard Security
• GRADE 1 – Low Security

What is SBD / Police Preferred Specification?

Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their surroundings.

SBD’s product based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification - provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime.

My Secure Garden has carefully selected some of the attack resistant crime prevention products which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

What is Sold Secure?

Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products through manual attack testing. Manufacturers and suppliers can apply to have products approved by Sold Secure. Products which have been satisfactorily assessed may bear the coveted Sold Secure Approved quality mark.

Backed by the Home Office, Sold Secure was established in 1992 by Northumbria & Essex Police combining two initiatives; Partnership Against Car Theft (PACT) and Sold Secure.

Sold Secure is now owned and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association (a not-for-profit trade association) and works from purpose-built laboratories in Rugby.

What is the LPCB?

Established more than 150 years ago, the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is a globally recognised third-party certification body.

Part of BRE, the LPCB has worked with industry and insurers since 1868 to set the standards needed to make sure that fire and security products and services perform effectively.

The LPCB’s Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) are widely recognised and applied in fire and security sectors around the world. The LPCB has produced a specific standard for standalone padlocks (LPS 1645) based on a testing regime which focusses on their level of manual attack resistance.

The LPCB also offers third-party certification to confirm that products and services have met, and will continue to meet, these standards.
